EPR Cost Estimator — Your Packaging Producer Fees by Region

Estimate your Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees for packaging across the US, EU, UK and Canada — per material, in native currency, with recyclability eco-modulation factored in.

What EPR Cost Estimator does

Extended Producer Responsibility fees are now live or phasing in across the US (Circular Action Alliance — Oregon, Colorado, California, Minnesota), the EU, the UK (PackUK), and Canada (Ontario). The estimator gives your per-tonne liability by material, in the region's native currency, and applies recyclability eco-modulation where the scheme uses it.

How it works

  1. Select your region

Pick US, EU, UK or Canada; the estimator loads that scheme's material set, fee basis and native currency.

  2. Choose the material

Select the packaging material — plastic (rigid/flexible), paper, glass, aluminium, composite.

  3. Apply recyclability modulation

Where the scheme eco-modulates, a green/amber/red recyclability rating raises or lowers the base fee.

  4. Read your per-tonne liability

Get the fee in local currency, then multiply by your placed-on-market tonnage to size the annual bill.

Frequently asked

Which EPR schemes does the estimator cover?

The US via the Circular Action Alliance (Oregon live 2025, Colorado 2026, California 2027, Minnesota), the EU, the UK's PackUK per-tonne fees, and Canada (Ontario), each in its own currency.

What is eco-modulation?

Several schemes raise fees on hard-to-recycle packaging and lower them on recyclable formats. The estimator applies a green/amber/red recyclability factor where the scheme modulates, so a recyclable spec pays less.

Is the fee a final legal figure?

No — it's an indicative per-tonne estimate from the PackIndex dataset for budgeting and spec decisions. Program fees and schedules change; verify against the current official schedule before filing.

How do I turn the per-tonne fee into my total bill?

Multiply the per-tonne figure by the tonnage of that material you place on each market. Running it per material and per region shows where your largest exposure sits.
