Optimize runs a version-controlled substitution knowledge base against your BoM: rPET for virgin PET, mono-material for mixed laminates, right-sized formats. Every candidate is priced from the live index — the AI phrases the summary but never invents a substitute, a price or a rule.

How it works
- Run Optimize on a costed project
One run evaluates the active BoM against the substitution knowledge base for its material family.
- Compare candidates
Each lever shows the material swap, the per-unit cost delta at today's index values, the annualised saving at your quantity, and whether recyclability improves.
- Apply the upgrade
Accepted swaps rewrite the working spec and BoM. Not convinced later? Revert restores the previous state exactly.
- Send the optimized pack to Source
The upgraded spec flows straight into an RFQ, so suppliers quote the pack you actually want to buy.
Frequently asked
Does the AI decide which materials to substitute?
No. Substitutes come from a deterministic, version-controlled knowledge base (e.g. food-grade rPET for virgin PET where barrier allows). AI only phrases the summary; every price delta is computed from live index values.
How are the savings calculated?
The candidate material's live PackIndex value replaces the original in the BoM line; the difference is shown per unit and multiplied by your annual quantity.
Does cheaper always mean less recyclable?
No — many swaps improve both, such as PVC-to-PET or mixed-laminate-to-mono-material. Each candidate carries an explicit recyclability direction so you can weigh cost against footprint.
What if a swap changes the geometry?
The project marks its design assets stale so dielines and artwork are regenerated against the new spec rather than silently mismatching.
